This is so disturbing I don't even know where to begin.

The Hello Kitty tarot deck. (Link courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman.)

I clicked, I looked, and I believe the noise I made can best be transcribed as, Aa-aaaah!. Which is only a few steps removed from the unpronouncable cries of the worshippers of Lovecraft's Elder Gods. Dunno about you, but I find that appropriate.

I am perturbed. And also reminded to get the "Hellraiser Kitty" t-shirt made before the next con I see you at.

It's the juxtaposition of the tarot deck with the various vibrators that really got me. Also, the fact that they have a separate category for "oddities," which is apparently the new synonym for "telephones."

I laughed. It's too silly to take seriously.

Heh. My friend L. actually owns one of those. She keeps it wrapped in a cheap non-natural fabric Hello Kitty scarf--she said it was perfect for that purpose.

And, see, the juxtaposition doesn't strike me as much as does the information that Disney officially licenses (in Japan) a vibrator shaped like Mickey Mouse's four-fingered hand. I find that to be vaguely creepy, but the Pooh's hunny pot one is kinda nifty.

I think I may start calling telephones "oddities." Not in general usage, mind you. Probably just with you guys. Hey, h.l, I'm going to miss our weekly post-BtVS chats on the oddity. OK, that sentence has contextual issues. But imagine the fun of inviting friends to "call me on the oddity." "May I use your oddity?" "I have to make a long-distance oddity call." It's mostly amusing because it's an apt description of many of our conversations in the odd medium. OK, stopping now.

This seems like a suitable moment to recommend some of Simon Barber's strange stories (http://http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Authors/Simon-Barber/). There are several which seem particularly relevant, such as At the Mountains of Cuteness (http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Authors/Simon-Barber/At_The_Mountains_of_Cuteness.txt).

Treat with caution...

Yes. Yes, I think you definitely should.

Shall I make you one while I'm at it ?

Um. Maybe?

I know I want to see it; I'm not 100% sure I'd want to wear it. Not out of any doubt in your design capabilities, I hasten to add, but just out of general dubiousness about my ability to carry off a Hellraiser Kitty t-shirt.

OK, then, I'll make one, and you can think about it some more when you see it.
