DL(2) Ch. 6: 477 words

As per usual, the creativity kicks in about the same time I ought to be getting ready for bed.

Does this happen to anyone else? I can write at most times of day and in most conditions--although there are Issues with sunlight which are complicated and tedious--but it all seems to find a groove and a beat to dance to around about quarter after nine. It may be a circadian rhythm thing (I've known since I was a child that I would do better as a nocturnal creature), or it may just be the inherent perversity of all things, including my mind. Whatever it is, it's really annoying.

Yes. I do my best writing at night. During the day is lovely, fine - but for some reason, I can focus best and make the words flow most easily between the hours of 12 and 3. It's very annoying, but - that's how it is.

I don't know that it's a circadian rhythm issue -- for me, it's more like I need the whole day to digest information, and only by the time I'm getting tired enough to fall asleep does it become ready to be creatively regurgitated, if you'll forgive the metaphor. It's as likely to happen at any time of day as at any other; the day/night split becomes inconsequential as I live by an irregular schedule. It does help when the house is quiet, but that can happen as well in the morning if everyone's gone as it does during the evening or at night once everyone's asleep.

It looks from here as if you throw all the ingredients into a pot on the back burner, so to speak, and late in the evening when the events of the day are more or less done, the delicious smell from the soup entices you, and you dip out a bowlful: nourishing and tasty, and so good when you give it the time to simmer ...

My writing rhythms frequently really kick in when everyone else in the apartment is going to sleep, which is annoying in a different way.

My husband writes best at night. I write best in the morning. We always figured it had to do with being night/morning people.

Oh, yes, it happens to me. Luckily to a considerable degree I can set my own schedule.

It's a real accomplishment for me to write anything much before 8 pm, and much easier after 10 pm.
