Also made a little progress on DL Ch. 5, and have realized that the problems I've been having are due to the fact that I've backed myself into writing a scene that needs exactly the sort of spatial and mechanical visualization that I am so very bad at. Knowing that doesn't help very much with writing the scene, but it does help with how I feel about NOT writing the scene, i.e., it's not writer's block, exactly, and it's not me failing the story or anything, it's just that this is going to take patience and scutwork, and if I don't have the time and energy to give it that right now, that's okay. It'll still be there when the dissertation is done, and the stuff I know about after this scene is still bouncing up and down with eagerness to be written.

Got some more quotes integrated into the dis. It begins to look as if my defense will be November 4th, although I still haven't heard back from one committee member, so that's not definite yet. But we're circling in.
