Had my first Finishing the Dissertation dream last night.
I think this requires context.
In 1996, I did the summer session of the American School for Classical Studies in Athens. For reasons completely not the fault of ASCSA or the program, it was, pound for pound, the most miserable six weeks of my life. Ergo, for months afterwards, I had Getting Back from Greece dreams, where I would find myself in the Athens airport again, or stuck in a taxi in Athens traffic, or endlessly circling La Guardia ... you get the idea. I'd wake up from those dreams, and lie there perpetrating a cliché, saying to myself, It was only a dream. The relief was almost worth it.
So now I've started the Finishing the Dissertation dreams. And I haven't even finished the damn dissertation yet.
Somehow this feels monumentally unfair.
