491 words in Chapter Six.

9:50 p.m.: having been stuck and unmotivated and grumpy all day, I'm bitching at Matociquala about same, and make an offhand comment--the ultimate throwaway line--about what a pity it is that a particular minor character is dying of TB.

9:51 p.m.: Hit Send.

9:53 p.m.: Realize that if said character DOESN'T die, suddenly all sorts of problems sort themselves out and things start looking much more interesting on all fronts. And the character's purpose in existing in this four-book set suddenly becomes clear and radiant and gorgeous.

Also? I know what the next scene is--which I haven't had a clue about All. Damn. Day.

My subconscious is smarter than I am. I'm at peace with that. But if it's going to give me a joy-buzzer handshake like this, does it HAVE to do it less than half an hour before I need to go to bed?

Can be worse know a published author who received an bolt out of the blue insight as to what was really WRONG with a minor character 1/2 way thru writing the 2nd book of a series which required rewriting of several critical scenes in the 1st volume which was at that moment sitting in wire racks in 5 & dimes alll across the States

minor character dying of TB.

For some reason, this made me laugh. Along the lines of, "somebody had to almost-die from Influenza."
