The fun part about chronic illness is the "chronic."

My dyspepsia (which, yes, old-fashioned and imprecise, but as a word I like it better than "reflux") threw a major tantrum last night, such that I woke up at 3 a.m. because my back hurt, I think because I'd been trying to curl up around my stomach, wherein there was a whole battalion of blowtorch-wielding goblins doing parade drills. Got my feet elevated, snagged my eyebag off the bedside bookcase, did savasana until my muscles relaxed enough that I could doze off. Woke up at 4, feeling enough better to stagger into the bathroom and get some antacids, went back into savasana, and finally got to sleep. Woke up at 8:30 feeling like crap, but not actually like molten lava was about to come pouring through my stomach wall. Haven't been brave enough to eat anything yet today, but have hopes that dinner will be possible.

That's the worst the dyspepsia has been in a really long time, and I'm hoping it was just reckless ingestion of caffeine that set it off, rather than a sign that my current stomach medication is going, so to speak, belly-up.

Bad night, leading to not-very-good day. But I did manage to get some errands run--including the lobbing-out of two turnips and the dispatch of my beloved and broken fountain pen to the nice people at Sheaffer, who will hopefully be able to fix it. And the night's alarums and excursions did finally impel me to call and get my regular yearly appointment with the gastroenterologist scheduled, which god knows needed to happen.

I'm officially On Vacation from everything for the rest of the week. I think I need it.

What is your mood icon? A little Shakespeare doll? I keep seeing them in communities and journals and feel like I want to hug it, every time. I think it must be one of the damndest cutest things I've seen.

Cheers,
Jez

I hope you feel better soon. And yeah, chronic, yuck.

May it mildly amuse you that my first thought on reading your choice of wording was that you could subtitle your LJ "dyspepsia's diary" if you wanted to.

That's Wild Bill Shakespeare (http://www.livejournal.com/users/jess79/141603.html), brain-child of the fabulously talented [livejournal.com profile] jess79. Directions on how to use the mood icon set are linked to from here; if you decide to adopt Wild Bill, I know she'd appreciate it very much if you left a comment to let her know. Thankyou! I also carry greetings from David, [livejournal.com profile] cavlec's husband, who is entertaining us with his charming wit in a chatroom right now.

Cheers,
Jez
