truepenny: artist's rendering of Sidneyia inexpectans (mink-fish)
[personal profile] truepenny
The last paragraph of my previous post ended up saying something I didn't want it to say.

Partly I think this is because I got tangled up in my own worser nature (hence the mink-icon with this post), and partly just because what I was trying to say was something completely other than the words I actually wrote.

So even leaving aside the whole ugly festerment of envy and competitiveness and my own personal hang-ups (which is to say, the parts of that paragraph that shouldn't have made it outside the confines of my skull), I failed to say what I meant.

Which, I am discovering, is because I can't figure out how to say what I did mean.

I think, though, it just boils down to: writing, as a profession, is hard. It's hard work, and it's hard on the ego in lots of different ways. That's just the nature of the beast.

Or, even more simply, to anyone suffering the torments of the damned over a We regret that this submission does not suit our current needs: It's not just you.
