I am actually consigning Eleanor Prosser and David Cressy to the used bookstore.

Despite the fact that I cited them in my dissertation.

I'm never going to read them again (or even finish reading, in the case of Cressy). I don't want them. But there's a part of my brain that says, You can't get rid of those. They're schoolbooks. I have the same problem with books I read for the M.A. exam, but with dissertation books, it's worse.

This is, and I realize it, a microcosmic rebellion, but my inner gothygirl is sanguine. She says you gotta start somewhere.

Hey, I still haven't gotten up to ditching some of my undergraduate science texts.

I still have an anthology of Latin American literature from high school. (Okay, it was because I was taking an evening class at the local uni, but still.)

Someday I'll finish cleaning out my grad school shelves. Someday.

As someone who is living with you and all your books, I say: good job!

(...and: thank goodness.)
