Since I didn't actually go to very much of the con--except Neil Gaiman's reading on Friday night, and the CBLDF auction on Saturday night. ([livejournal.com profile] jonsinger, I opened the bidding on your bowl, but approximately two seconds thereafter I was out of my depth. Beautiful bowl.) And watched the signing lines.

Everybody seemed happy, though, and I got to hang out with lovely people. It is All Good.

I come home richer by a CBLDF membership, a cocktail devil (given me by Jill Thompson), a non-Euclidean orrery (given me by [livejournal.com profile] elisem), the (absolutely gorgeous) program book for Fiddler's Green. Loot from Dreamhaven: Cages (Dave McKean), Rose (Jeff Smith and Charles Vess), the DVDs of Neverwhere. An Elisean pendant called Rhino Carries the Moon on a long blue ribbon, and a handful of fishies (see this entry for explanation of the fishies).

Elise introduced me to Time Team, which answers the question of what Tony Robinson is doing with himself these days.

And I cracked 10k on "The Mare's Nest" this morning.

What makes an orrery non-Euclidean?

It's a smallish object, somewhere between a metal sculpture and a brooch, and it's obviously an alien astronometric instrument. Thus I call it the non-Euclidean orrery.

An astrolabe as jewelry?

No, it really is more like an orrery (http://www.dekoepel.nl/plaatjeslev/Orrery.jpg). But, I repeat, an alien and non-Euclidean orrery.

I obviously must see this; I can't visualize one as a brooch.

Well, visually, it only has two dimensions. But I feel certain that it extends along other axes not perceptible to human senses.

You've run it by Ben and Rusty, right?

I was too shy to introduce myself at the convention, so I'm saying "hi" now. (It just seemed incredibly weird and stalkerish to know who you were when you didn't know me. I think I need a LJ name badge. That might help.) I bought one of [livejournal.com profile] elisem's little pewter bats and you explained their popularity thus: "I would say they're flying out of here, but that would be very bad, so I won't."

You should have said hi! I've gotten quite used to people saying, You're Truepenny, right? I read your LiveJournal. (Although I agree with you it's a weird thing. *g*) I'm a little mortified that you've now got me indissolubly associated with that perfectly atrocious pun.
