I freely admit I gave up the short stories when my first novel was published. I had always struggled with them, achieved very moderate success, and one everything was on the REJECTED list, I stopped submitting them. Hell with it. I'll write books. For that, you get a contract.
But I do have to say I regret that one of my stories never found a home. I've read it at all the conventions this year, everyone loves it, I've had people tell me they need a break afterword to recover from it, etc.
