I think it depends a little on whether your long hair is well-behaved or not. My hair, for example (and although it's not Very Long now, it used to be waist-length, and we may get there again one of these days) is thick and fine and curly enough to be frizzy. (It's also Mary-Sue-worthy blonde, which embarrassed me deeply when I was an otherwise unattractive teenager.) It slides through pins, clips, barrettes, ponytail-holders. No matter what I do with it, tendrils escape (and I hate the feeling of "product" in my hair); somedays it makes me look like I belong on the cover of a historical romance, somedays it makes me look like a badly-groomed poodle. It's also hot (one of the strangest sensations in the world is taking a cold shower on a hot day and having the water hit your scalp cold and drip down the small of your back warm) and very heavy and will give me a headache if I'm not careful.
