Eating sushi with a head cold is, um, interesting.

I could sort of feel the wasabi burning on my tongue, but I couldn't really taste it, and the snot sheep in my sinuses entirely quenched the wasabi rush. Now, granted, this is co-op veggie sushi, and their wasabi is not the best (an interesting side-effect of refrigerating a dollop of wasabi all day is that it assumes the shape and texture of an art gum eraser), but it has given me the wasabi rush before. But this time, my sinuses were having none of it. Kind of like a gelatinous cube rolling over a cave orc, if cave orcs were related to horseradish.

And I think I'd better stop before my metaphors get any worse.

Interesting. Capsaicins (the active ingredients in chili peppers, etc.) are notoriously decongestant; indeed, in my household, we will sometimes remark that a particular dish 'cleared me right up.' I'd never thought to experiment as to whether this was true of wasabi. Hmmm... what about Chinese mustards?

A phenomenon with which I am familiar--and even rather fond of. It's possible this wasabi simply wasn't very strong.
