Argh! I left out a piece where I meant to say that I think the "hard" sciences CLAIM to be more rigorous based on their level of abstraction and use of mathematics etc. etc., but that I don't agree with that claim. I think any discipline can be hard, in the sense I'm using.

And all of them strive for rigor. It's just that there has historically been some confusion about whether you had to be mathematical in order to achieve it.
