I actually agree -- art often contends with the crappy -- but, beyond a certain point, it's still all about the poor angsty male and his angst, and the female gets to stand around being projected upon.
Which, just from the practical standpoint, is kind of boring. From the stnadpoint of signification, I feel I have the right and duty to wield the pointy stick of "find a new hobbyhorse! I am done giving you a ride."
