Well, he *is* the viewpoint character, and you write well.
More to the point, I am deeply sorry for him, much more than I am for Felix. They're both victims of their situation, but somehow I find Mildmay's silent (resentful) suffering more compelling than Felix's attacks. This probably says something bad about me.
