You may be interested to know that as a UK-English person, Felix and Mildmay's voices are English in my head, and their dialects work just fine. Felix is RADA-trained RP, and Mildmay is a blend of working-class southern (more earthy and richer than Cockney) with a bit of dour Yorkshire thrown in.
Also, on the characters telling the-truth-as-they-see-it - it's one of the things I absolutely love about the books, (and some of your short stories, too) - the way that we can every now and then see through their own self-delusion. We learn so much, especially about Mildmay and Felix, but also Mehitabel, from the lies they tell to themselves. Very real. :)
