We seem to have similar ideas - as far as I can work it out, Mildmay sounds to me like someone from around Barnsley way (although possibly with relatives on the East Yorkshire coast) who's spent several years moving around the area covered by Estuary English. He'd code-switch into Estuary or general South Yorkshire according to the task in hand, and in his head uses whichever vocabulary is handiest but with South Yorkshire vowels. This explains (to my internal ear) why he never says 'us' for 'our'.
Pity it doesn't entirely map onto the secondary world.
