The interesting question is not "provable assertions", but "testable assertions". People who hold testable assertions but are unwilling to test them are a problem.

I suspect that without the various meanings of "truth", the problem would just show up in other ways. And that the basic problem is the absolutist world views.

Then again, "I know that there are people in this world who do not love their fellow men, and I HATE people like that!"
