Ah. That's why I have layers of writing group (if that makes sense). Those who read my drafty drafts (a couple of trusted friends indeed) don't always see (for comment, anyway) my later drafts. And sometimes, just sometimes, a reader who already knows all about John's parentage isn't a bad thing to have.
