Have now driven myself to Minneapolis for a convention twice. Have noted a certain alarming pattern emerging, which is that after the convention:

1. All my nails will break.
2. I will do something incredibly stupid while driving.
3. Getting home safely will require unnatural amounts of Mountain Dew and peanut M&Ms.

I don't like any of these.

#1 is obvious. #2 is disturbing. Last time I caused [livejournal.com profile] papersky to miss her plane because I turned the wrong way THREE TIMES between [livejournal.com profile] elisem's house and the airport. This time I backed the car into the garage door, creating really a lovely crumpled bit at one corner. And #3 is really really unpleasant. Due to health issues (cholesterol and dyspepsia) I normally consume neither chocolate nor caffeine in any form. So the Mountain Dew and peanut M&Ms keep me awake and therefore ON the road, which I approve of, but they leave me v. v. jittery and more than a little wired. Am now drinking water & unpacking.

I am always a mess when I get home from a con, no matter how I got there. Something about being stuck in a dry hotel filled with recycled air for a weekend, and somehow managing not to eat or sleep as well as I should, despite efforts to do so.

Glad to hear you are home safe. I would appear to be doing reasonably well with that this time; no visible health effects at all bar rather painful non-depressurisation of my right ear for some time on the way down; am I in danger of turning into a grown-up, I wonder ?
