I am not an historian, but I found Victoria Lincoln's A Private Disgrace: Lizzie Borden by Daylight (http://www.amazon.com/Private-Disgrace-Lizzie-Borden-Daylight/dp/B0006BR7XQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1303426991&sr=1-1) published in 1967 to be a good read at least. She didn't seem to overstate her references and her conclusions are interesting.
