Maybe don't think of it in terms of "gone", but as being repressed. Gone is so terminal and repressed to me means it's still there, lying underneath, just waiting. Sounds more hopeful to me. :) You'll get it back.
I've had trouble sleeping until I found out that I have ASMR and when I watch those trigger videos it is lights out for me! Side effect is loosing my cell phone in my bed, behind the bed, on the floor, oh, I'm sleeping on it. :) I don't know if those would help.
