Verdict: Still doing all right.

And you're stopping because ... ? Still wonky in the carpals. Trying v. hard to be sensible.

Comments: I hate writing fight scenes and I suck at them. So, of course, I've just written myself into a knife fight. Way to go, Truepenny.

I stumbled on a good trick: I realized that if you think about it the right way, there's no difference between sex scenes, fight scenes, and conversations.

Action/reaction/counteraction/complication/development. Repeat as necessary; vary for effect.

(shh, don't tell....)

Well, yeah, but *which* actions? (she wails).

Actually, this one ended up short and brutal. It's the fallout that's going to be complicated and messy. And that's stuff I'm better at.

I will remember that for absolute sure.

Like I said to [livejournal.com profile] matociquala, this particular scene turned out to be short, nasty, and generally quite Hobbesian. And I think I got all the spatial relations and vectors and things right. But the next one that comes along, my narrator and I may not be able to resolve so quickly.

And now that I know you're a fount of knowledge, I can pester you with random questions. *g* Like: do you know where and when the butterfly knife originated?

Thanks! V. cool. And, yes, it answers my principal question, which was whether butterfly knives were anachronistic in a pre-Industrial Rev. type setting. I'm very happy to learn they're not.
