Today is feeling distinctly purgatorial.

Slept badly, still headachy--I look for words inside my head, and they aren't there. Am writing this post in an effort to get something moving, see if we can rock free of the rust and kudzu that's overgrown the gears.

(Perfectly valid rhetorical trope there in the last line. It's called a zeugma.)

Plenty of stuff I need to be working on: dissertation, Ch. 5 of DL, one novella and one prose poem that need revision ... And then there's the laundry and the bread-making and the grotty state of the bathroom and the unrepentant chaos that is my desk.

This is the kind of thing that really makes me wish I could still handle caffeine.

*prompted by the obvious train of thought, Truepenny gets up to make herself a cup of decaf green tea*

It's 11 a.m. The mail's come and it's all bills and junk. Apparently my mouse-traps are no better than anybody else's.

This phrase came from a children's book about some kittens and I cannot remember the name of the author. I bought it in about 1975/6. Can you tell me the author - she was a lady who had been hitherto an actress and subsequently lived in France - or the name of the book would do.
