Am reminding self firmly that the Great Wall of China was built stone by stone. Am trying to ignore pernicious subtext of metaphor, which is the fact that the Great Wall took the resources of an entire country and a really long time.

Dammit, I need minions. Where are my minions?

MMMMMinions... That'd be lovely. & ;-)
My paper is already 4 pages over the suggested limit, and still the material to be incorporated is endless...

And it's a good thing the Great Wall DIDN'T have to be done in only two weeks, let me tell you.

Scholarly greetings,

Mona

I could, um, make you feel worse by telling you the legend of Wan ("Ten Thousand") and the Great Wall. But you wouldn't want me to do that, would you?

Okay, I won't.

Probably, no, I don't need to hear that right now. Save it for after I've deposited, okay? *g*

(Another inducement to finish: then I can hear the legend of Wan!)

Besides, I hear there were several drafts of the Great Wall.

Would you settle for Hadrian's?

If I can get away with just building Hadrian's Wall, I will be one very happy Truepenny, believe you me.

That's the problem. I want to build Hadrian's Wall, and my dissertation director wants me to build the Great Wall. No wonder I feel put upon!

Minions? I thought only Evil Overlords had minions. You don't seem much like an Evil Overlord to me.

And if you haven't seen The Evil Overlord's List, you have a treat in store: http://www.eviloverlord.com/lists/overlord.html

Well, flunkies, lackies, or myrmidons would work just as well, really.

Never let it be said that I am picky. *g*

Dammit, I need minions. Where are my minions?

If I could lend you CPU space in my brain I would. Goodness knows I'm not using it.

Part of me is insisting that you need at least ten for a minyan, but the rest is unrepentantly singing:

"A minion for me, a minion for me
If you're no' a minion, ye're nae use tae me
The Black Watch are braw, the Seaforths an' a'
But the bonnie wee minion's the pride of them a'!"

Do Minion of Canada, can I help you?

Well, that earwormed me with the Sisters of Mercy's Dominion, not that it's an inapt song for my current mood.

["Are you the henchman of the house ?"
"No, I only go as far as lackey."

- from Last Action Hero. Which does after all have a snippet of Schwarzenegger as Hamlet in, and is therefore on topic for [livejournal.com profile] truepenny's dissertation. ]

"Look at me -
I'm as misty as a kitten in a tree"

Not at all on topic, of course, but my brain tends to ricochet on Fridays.

I read several people's lives in the Elizabethan Who's Who, as it was sitting on the desk while things were loading slowly, and I didn't find a single case of revenge so far.

Really, I think there weren't any. I mean, mercifully, that's someone else's dissertation, but I think a great many critics need to wake up and admit that revenge tragedy is fiction, pure and simple. That's why it's enjoyable.
