new novella: 1,432 words

Finished! Total: 10,100 words

After dinner and a walk, it cooled down enough to work. Thank goodness. Yes, I should have been working on my dissertation instead, but I'm not going to feel guilty about it (she says defiantly). The story needed finishing.

And, dammit, I just had an idea for another one.

This always used to happen. My great bursts of creativity would come at the end of the semester, when I needed to be working on term papers. It was very reliable. And apparently that piece of mental legerdemain is still my best trick.

Always

They *always* turn up when you were planning on doing something else.

Always.

And suddenly it isn't a pile of words any more, it's a whole new thing that wasn't in the world before. Well done.

*cheers*

I can relate to having the new things come when one is already over one's head in other things. I think I do have a stress-into-creativity translator stored somewhere in the back of my brain, though it seems to feed better off personal/relationship stress than work-related stress, and it's entirely unpredictable in its actions.
