truepennyI've lost track of how many words I've written on which day since the last bookkeeping entry, but the salvage-thing now has 5,577 words of narrative, with all the bits I've written properly hooked together, and at least something that's pretending to be a plot for the rest.
Which is pretty good, considering that I still feel like crap.
The writing process for this story is feeling very awkward. Not slow, obviously, but awkward. I'm not quite sure why, and I'm even less sure of what to do about it--or if I need to do anything about it. My current plan is just to keep writing and hope for the best. I always have to write my way in to finding the world and the voice, and it may just be taking me a little longer than usual. Or it may be the effect of using pieces of several different stories to tell a story that is not quite like any of them. Or, as a third alternative, it may be that the factual stuff I'm handwaving past (because the story wants to be written NOW, and I do not have time to go haring off on that research--I shouldn't be haring off after the story, either, but that particular self-abnegation is one I'm no good at) is hampering my efforts to find bedrock. I don't know.
But at least there's some writing happening.
