I hate that so much I couldn't begin to tell you. I spent quite some time avoiding the one I had to write for the Columbia Guide to Digital Publishing.
The funny thing is, the bare-bones two-sentence one I wrote ended up looking far more professional and less like puffery than just about every other one in there.
The trouble here is that I need some sort of "interesting" sentence about myself to go with the "She has sold stories to blah blah blah" sentence. (I'm not required to have one, but one looks a bit stodgy if it's not there.) And those are what I suck at. I don't find myself interesting and never have (which is why you will not be seeing my memoirs published any time soon), so there's nothing to grab onto. *sigh* I'm working on it.
Yeah, I know about my name. I've never bugged them to correct it because I am perfectly happy to let people think of me as the kind of bozo who lets her name be misspelled.
That's lovely. Would you mind if I borrowed a bit of it: "collects ghosts in books"? Because I think I could do a riff on collecting and get myself out of this damnable problem.
And I want to put your bio up on my LJ userinfo page, too. 'Cause it's nifty.
Truepenny collects ghosts in books, pressing them between the leaves like dried flowers. She has sold stories to LCRW, Alchemy, Tales of the Unanticipated, All Hallows, and Lovecraft's Weird Mysteries.
This gives me a wonderful picture of your study, book lined, naturally, and the desk piled with books too. The pages of the books seem to move just a little, as if there's a breeze. Next to the computer there's a ship in a bottle -- wait, is that a ship? It seems to be struggling to get out.
