1. Finish Second Maiden section.

2. Finish morality section.

3. Write Bussy section

4. Work with quotes.

5. Reread Changeling, Atheist, and Revengers.

6. Read Kristeva, Powers of Horror: An Essay on Abjection. (She makes me feel like the Wicked Witch of the West just after Dorothy dumped a bucket of water on her: I'm melllllllllting!)

I am completely unenthused. About all of it. Bleah.

My plush Cthulhu and I thank you for the tip. :)

Actually, I quite like Kristeva--which is more than I can say for either Lacan or Irigaray. She's just so freaking hard to read.

You will probably want nothing to do with this once the dissertation is defended and all is rejoicing, but I have often thought that writing up your memoirs -- no, no, I prithee, do not scream; backing away slowly is sufficient to ensure that I never again bring up the subject -- of the process would produce a marvellous document.

I'll creep away quietly now.

I'm not horrified, but I am decidedly bemused. It would never have occurred to me to write such a thing--nor that anyone would want to read it if I did.

I'll think about it.

And yet--

--you will prevail.

I'm off to read more Wood. Send email if the need to scream overtakes you.

I really don't blame you for being unenthused about Kristeva, the woman who never managed to work out that 'abject' is an adjective, not a noun, and took too many generations of postgrads downt he same path...

Dissertion

My Friend ANNE LOOKER she wrote slash and was co-author of GROPE. Suggests trashing all your previous work on Jacobian Revenge trajitys and espeacially forgeet the idea of looking for a moral centre & try striking off on an original line that these are kin to the slash movies of the 70-80's (e.g. THRILL KILL ZOMBIE NAZI GRAVEROBBERS )just an excuse to pile the bodies up on the stage and give the audience the buzz of young female dying for forbidden love. All done mind you in crystaline verse. You may get an A+ you may get D- but you will stand out of the boring maddening crowd of routine students work & with a bit of luck that is enuf to wangle a research assistantship.
No responsibility is taken for anyone taking this advice

That is in fact, broadly speaking, the thrust of my argument, although not so much with the Z-grade movies. Modern horror is the descendant of Jacobean tragedy.

I'm not looking for a moral center (as I said here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/truepenny/147062.html). But an awful lot of previous critics were.
