Had a dream last night that gave me another novel. Not the whole thing, but the main character and several major plot points, and the STRUCTURE for crying out loud!

Even if I didn't have the dissertation, I have 3 books of a quartet unfinished (because the third book is going to need heavy revamping once I'm done with the second), a half-finished novella, and about a third of a horror novel that needs concentrated time and energy before it's going to be ready to fly.

And all of it queued up behind the dissertation, which has to have priority now. I'd BETTER get this freaking thing done by October, or my head's going to explode.

(It's not that I can't write fiction around the edges of the dissertation work; it's that I can't give the fiction the thinking space it needs to do any of the behind the scenes work that makes the writing possible. I'm discovering that only one project at a time can requisition serious processing power. And right now, that's the dis.)

I feel your pain.

One of the major annoyances of Monster Books is that I have so much Other Stuff to be working on, dammit!

At least you're working on something you want to be working on (she says grumpily).

To be fair, it's not that I don't want to finish the dis--it's just that I want it to write itself while I'm asleep or something, so it doesn't interfere with my writing time. And I can't have that.

*bitch*bitch*bitch*

I should go read The Atheist's Tragedy.

Heh. Wanna give me your nice green grass and you can have my nasty brown grass? I'm very lucky to have one idea at a time, and even when I have it I'm lucky to be able to work on it. I view with profound awe all of you people whose ideas leap and gibber and claw their way out of the unconscious mind and pull the curtains down and piss on the carpet.

But what if my grass is mostly weeds? Which is certainly how it feels some days.

But, yes, you're right, I oughtn't to be bitching about having "too many" ideas. There's no such thing. And they really will wait for me, even if I'm afraid they're going to go winging softly off into the night like luna moths.

I do, however, insist on my right to be grumpy about my dissertation. :)

No such thing as too many ideas, but definitely such a thing as insufficient hours in the year. I do not think I'm going to be able to write the ideas faster than they come to me unless at some point I can do without a day job.

Well, at least you're providing entertainment for the rest of us.
