I have triumphed against the forces of inertia, entropy, and the natural perversity of all things.

DESPITE the continuing pain in hands and wrists and DESPITE my printer cartridge running out of ink and DESPITE not having a spare (when I always have a spare) and DESPITE it necessitating a half-hour drive to get a new one and DESPITE the first place I went being out of the cartridge I needed and DESPITE the cartridges being exceptionally well-hidden in the second place I went and DESPITE my printer trying to eat the paper and DESPITE my own laziness and DESPITE rush-hour traffic and DESPITE the twenty minute line at the post office ...

I have lobbed out FOUR (count 'em, 4!) turnips. With a fifth ready to go out as soon as the reading period for the particular market starts on Sept. 1st.

I feel incrediby smug and virtuous.

And now, of course, my brain is singing, Alchemy and Argosy / Work together in perfect harmony. Because it is sick and twisted like that.

Congratulations, but er...if I might ask, what are turnips in this context?

Short story submissions.

[livejournal.com profile] oracne and I started calling them turnips for reasons which now escape me. It makes the whole process just that much sillier and therefore that much less sturm-und-drang-ish.

[livejournal.com profile] rysmiel tells me I lob my turnips out with a trebuchet, which also makes me very happy.

I like the term.

It seems appropriate - i've just been rereading Laura Ingalls Wilder, and when she had to harvest literal turnips, it was hard work that hurt her hands.

It's all comes down to alleration doesn't it? No of course not! Congrats on the turnip trouncing.

BTW, I wondered if you've tried any different keyboards? Mine was right shoulder and I switched to a vertical mouse for a while, which has worked wonderfully...gah, is alleration viral by any chance?

I use a Kinesis (http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/) contoured keyboard, which I love with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. Even it, however, cannot save me from myself.

Oh dear, and I'm the one who's fumble-fingers. That should read alliteration, of course.

oh, no. Stop that, brain. You look like a golden retriever who's just spotted an SUV. You need to do _work_, not go chasing after - hey! Come back here!

Alchemy and Argosy
Live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my workbench
Vessels and stench
Of the sea

(We all know
That commerce is the same wherever you go
There is dross and gold
In everyone
We learn to live
We learn to sell each other
What we need to refine
The Hermetic line)

*Iong-suffering sigh* Has anybody seen a cerebellum? Gray, squishy, about yay big, probably on its way to a library?
