truepenny: artist's rendering of Sidneyia inexpectans (fennec)

Finally got myself unstuck last night--at ll p.m., which may explain why I slept so badly.

The trouble with writer's block is not that I get it, but that, when I do, I always want it to solve itself, without any work on my part.

That's not how it works, sunshine.

It took me two and a half notebook pages of what I described to [livejournal.com profile] matociquala as wandering in circles wringing my hands before I finally worked my way into the right direction and the right starting point. And it was hard, ugly, boring work. But not pointless, because I finally managed to ask the right question. And once I'd asked the right question, the answer was there waiting for me.

And then I wrote 418 words in Chapter 15.

Yeah. I've spent a lot of my draft figuring out what needs to be there by writing other things instead.

I'm so glad you're unstuck, even if it was hard work getting out of the soft sand and back on firm going again.

Thinking of the Pooh analogy, he had to be pulled out by a long line of Rabbit's Friends and Relations...

Glad to hear the good news! (and it's so often the questions that are important.)
