small satisfactions
Sep. 16th, 2003 03:00 pmSo I'm not getting much work done today (chapter fifteen is crawling slowly along, and I'm avoiding the dis like it was a big, scary, Truepenny-eating monster, which come to think of it, it is), but I have managed to get all my doodads back on my keychain where they belong.
Viz., and to wit:
1 Pikachu, who is rapidly losing all distinguishing figures and might be better described as 1 bright yellow plastic blob. (Originally, my Pikachu keychains were just a joke, but then I discovered that having big bright yellow plastic critters on my keychain meant I quit losing my keys.)
1 keyfob in the shape of a footprint, a safety award from ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratories), which clearly my father brought home and I made off with, though I no longer remember the circumstances under which this occurred.
2 large, old-fashioned keys which Mirrorthaw found when he was cleaning out his desk in his parents' house and gave to me. We have no idea what they unlock.
1 WWBD (What Would Buffy Do?) keychain made for me by the gracious and ever-talented
renenet.
1 keyfob of Sue's skull
1 small pewter keyfob in the shape of a book, with a quote from Tolkien: "Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens." Mirrorthaw gave this to me years ago, and it's been on my keychain so long, junketing around in my purse and my pockets and so forth, that the quote is no longer readable unless you already know what it says.
... And, oh yeah, then there's the keys. :)

Date: 2003-09-16 02:50 pm (UTC)Two small brass cat nametags from the last time (1999) that my cats were staying with my mum and dad. Engraved on them is their surname, which is of course also mine, their phone number, and their postcode.
A bottle-opener that I got free from Scottish Friendly Assurance. I use this maybe two or three times a year, because I'm not much of a beer-drinker, but, y'know, when I want a bottle-opener, Nothing Else Will Do. And it makes me feel very efficient to be able to whip out my bottle-opener and use it as and when required
A metal model of a guillotine, given me by Eric for whom I catsat in 1989 when he and his lover were on holiday in France. It was originally faced with brass, but that coating has all but worn away in the 14 years it's spent in my pocket. Eric has been dead for 11 of them, which is one reason why I keep it. Plus, I like it.

Date: 2003-09-17 07:56 am (UTC)My keyfob is a thing that goes round and round inside another thing -- isn't that a hell of a precise description! It's a flat circle of metal with a smaller circle of metal inside that which rotates. I find this appropriately fiddly to fiddle with in my pocket, which is good for my RSI. I used to have a smiley ball, and then I used to keep a stone the same size so I could turn them together in my pocket for my RSI. This fob was selected for fiddling purposes when that one broke.
