emperor chapter 16: 753 words

Yes, it is a very short chapter. I am trying to teach myself that it is okay to write short chapters. And it may fill out if there turns out to be more stuff it needs. But it did the thing that particular chapter was slated to do, so I stopped.

Pardon my defensiveness.

There isn't a set length.

But I know how you feel.

I used to write chapters that were 3000 words long. The reason for this was that in Protext on the CPC files longer than 18k were a pain. So all my chapters were 18k, 3000 words. It felt like the right length for a chapter to be. When I wrote chapter 24 of The King's Peace and it was 4500 words, I felt like something had gone wrong -- I was passing 3000 words and I wasn't nearly finished... none of it had end-of-chapter nature! Then I wrote one that was only 2500 words! But all in all, right up to the end of Prize I wrote 3000 word chapters, and they still felt like the "right" length to me, so it was a great shock to the system writing the little 1000 word chapterlets for Tooth and Claw.
