Yesterday was a complete wash-out as far as the dissertation was concerned. I stared at the same damn pair of paragraphs while my brain sang la la la not thinking la la la until I finally admitted I really wasn't getting anywhere, printed the four and a half pages I've got, and gave them to [livejournal.com profile] heres_luck. I don't know if what I need at the moment is my hand held or my ass kicked, but either way, HL is the person to go to. (How's that for an encomium, HL? *g*)

On the plus side, I've got 763 words of DL 6 that I didn't have before nine last night, the last 125 of them coming from one of those Eurekalet! moments, where a pair of problems meet and take each other out. I love it when that happens.

Did not sleep well. Strange and really unpleasant dreams about coup d'états (coups d'état?) and kidnapped emperors and evacuating planets, with cryogenically frozen bodies getting lost, and running out of oxygen, and all sorts of nasty things. Some of that is novel stuff working itself out, but some of it really isn't. And then it somehow connected up with a con-dream which, as so many of my con-dreams do, involved taking down [livejournal.com profile] elisem's table while trying to find someone to give them an urgent message. Which isn't so bad as a first pass at the reduced, condensed, and concentrated essence of most of the cons I've been to recently, except that it leaves out all the really good bits.

I don't have a plan for today yet. At the moment am resting on my laurels for being up, showered, breakfasted, clothed, and capable of writing comprehensible sentences. Yes, I do treasure my small victories, thank you very much.

Eight days. There are not even words to express how much I want this fucking thing out of my hands.

Okay, so... eight days means Monday the 6th, right?

So shall we plan on Friday the 10th? I would say Wednesday the 8th except I have suddenly acquired an Informational Interview for that afternoon.

I am currently thinking corn chowder to start, the basil- and feta-stuffed squash that I did last T'giving, potato-bread dressing, something else vegetable-y, challah, and hot mulled cider (non-alcoholic, of course). And dessert. Um. *scratches head* Of some kind.

Ooh, are we celebrating me turning it in? I thought I didn't get the party until after I've defended.

Not complaining, mind you. Just confused.

No, my mixup; I went and forgot all about Guy Fawkes' Day. Well, let's see here. Friday the 7th, then?

Really the best part of the mention of me was the working in of the word "encomium," which I love, and with which I once won a game of Scrabble.

And of course I looked at that and thought blankly, "Working in"? What does she mean, "working in"?

But then, I am such a geek that I use that sort of word in everyday (or even quotidian) conversation.
