truepenny: artist's rendering of Sidneyia inexpectans (porpentine-flowers)
Yesterday was a complete wash-out as far as the dissertation was concerned. I stared at the same damn pair of paragraphs while my brain sang la la la not thinking la la la until I finally admitted I really wasn't getting anywhere, printed the four and a half pages I've got, and gave them to [livejournal.com profile] heres_luck. I don't know if what I need at the moment is my hand held or my ass kicked, but either way, HL is the person to go to. (How's that for an encomium, HL? *g*)

On the plus side, I've got 763 words of DL 6 that I didn't have before nine last night, the last 125 of them coming from one of those Eurekalet! moments, where a pair of problems meet and take each other out. I love it when that happens.

Did not sleep well. Strange and really unpleasant dreams about coup d'états (coups d'état?) and kidnapped emperors and evacuating planets, with cryogenically frozen bodies getting lost, and running out of oxygen, and all sorts of nasty things. Some of that is novel stuff working itself out, but some of it really isn't. And then it somehow connected up with a con-dream which, as so many of my con-dreams do, involved taking down [livejournal.com profile] elisem's table while trying to find someone to give them an urgent message. Which isn't so bad as a first pass at the reduced, condensed, and concentrated essence of most of the cons I've been to recently, except that it leaves out all the really good bits.

I don't have a plan for today yet. At the moment am resting on my laurels for being up, showered, breakfasted, clothed, and capable of writing comprehensible sentences. Yes, I do treasure my small victories, thank you very much.

Eight days. There are not even words to express how much I want this fucking thing out of my hands.

Departmental friend read and commented helpfully on the Introduction. Which seems to be finished now, although I am really skeptical about that.

Today's avoidance technique: I made a Memories category for Dissertatorial edda, with all the posts I've made about my dissertation since January. So if anyone wants the recap, it's all there.
