I may make 1,000 before I actually get to bed.
Rewriting here is getting weird, because it's much more first-draft writing than revamping what I had. But I still have to end up in (roughly) the same place. But considering how much the original version sucks, I have a remarkably free hand for the next couple of chapters. I know WHAT happens, but the HOW, which is always the interesting part, is up for grabs.
[Okay, I just reread the preceding paragraph and am amazed and mortified. Three buts in as many sentences? Clearly I am on crack and should get the hell to bed. --Ed.]
Pity I don't at the moment have any scintillatingly brilliant ideas about that HOW.
Maybe I will scintillate tomorrow.
