690 words on the necklace story I've been working on since WisCon.

And again I say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone who's been replying to my variously grumpy, bitchy, and whiny posts with support and encouragement. [livejournal.com profile] cavlec, I think the appropriate sacrifice to a Plush Cthulhu is gingerbread men. With lots of red icing.

I haven't seen any of these, is there a special filter I'm not on?

I am reminded of two quotes at once:
"I rather think," he observed in a detached and dubious manner, "I am behaving like a lout."

"Do you? Then all I can say is, your notion of loutishness is exceedingly feeble and limited. You simply don't know how to begin."

And:
They don't have sarcasm on Betelgeuse, and Ford Prefect often failed to notice it unless he was concentrating.

Which is to say that I can't quite tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but on the off-chance you aren't, no, you haven't missed anything. I meant the habitual attitude of my dissertation posts.

That was me being perhaps over-oblique in indicating that I haven't seen any of those characteristics, only quite reasonable reactions to the circumstances.

Well, that is what I thought. But I wasn't quite sure.

And the fact that bitching is a reasonable reaction to the situation (and, yes, anyone who can get through a doctoral degree without complaining occasionally should either be canonized or killed, or possibly both) doesn't mitigate the counterweighted fact that it is bitching. I'm tired of listening to me complain.

I sometimes think it's possible that we exaggerate the extent to which our emotions are leaking out and impinging upon other people. I once apologised to partner for being ratty, which he hadn't noticed. This could of course mean that my normal demeanour is indistinguishable from rattiness, or (I hope, more likely) that although I was feeling intensely ratty it wasn't anything like as apparent in my words and actions as I thought. Though I've also had people attribute to me negative emotions which were not actually there.

Heh heh heh. Got an appetizer for Friday now, yup yup.

Except I don't think I have a gingerbread-man cutout in the house. Shall have to go procure one.
