truepenny: artist's rendering of Sidneyia inexpectans (vft)

[livejournal.com profile] heres_luck, who rocks like a rocking thing, has made me a VFT icon. (Actually, she has made me several, but this one is my favorite.)

Which I use to report that, yes, indeed, Audrey is still alive, and seems to be following the life-cycle that the excellent Carnivorous Plant FAQ predicted.

Someone whose username I am now forgetting very kindly replied to one of my early Audrey posts, about the importance of not using straight tap water. (VFTs are cranky and fragile, and they don't like the chemicals.) I've been using Brita-filtered water, which seems okay. And Audrey's little terrarium seems to do a good job of self-moisturizing, as well. I just checked and the soil is nicely damp.

It still weirds me out slightly that VFTs are native to the Carolinas. It's like being told that triffids grow wild in the Adirondacks, only, you know, not as catastrophic.
