another to-do list

I'm not getting much of anything done. I could blame this on matociquala for getting me hooked on The Man from UNCLE, but really, no, it's just that I'm not getting much of anything done. So I'm making a list and posting it in this public forum (like Martin Luther and the 95 Theses--except for the part where it's really nothing like that at all), in the hopes that that will help a little with the doldrums I seem to be becalmed in.

So. Things Truepenny Needs To Do.

1. Give revised dissertation chapters to advisor.

2. Actually look at comments from committee members, instead of letting them turn into a giant guilt god in the corner of the room.

3. Email the program assistant and tell her I'll need to register for another semester. (Even if I could have gotten everything done by the deadline, I certainly can't after avoiding academic work like the most proverbial of plagues for an entire month.)

4. Get proof-corrections to All Hallows.

5. Resubmit the revise-and-resubmit to Abyss and Apex.

6. Balance checkbook.

7. Register for WisCon.

8. Figure out whether I can make it to MiniCon or not.

9. Respond to the programming email from OddCon.

10. CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

11. Clean my goddamn desk.

12. Call and make the myriad medical appointments I need to schedule for the first couple months of 2004.

But, this afternoon, I'm going to try to finish the short story I've been working on the past couple days.

Writing is also valuable and important work, and I'll probably do better if I can remember that.

Holiday gift idea: choose one or two charities that most of the people on your gift list would approve of, and give whatever you were going to spend on gifts. Last year, I gave Heart of the Beast (community theater) and Philanthrafund (GLBT organization) money, then told everyone. Some groups have little cards. I gave money to Fellowship of Reconciliation in my in-laws names. This does not work well for little kids, but many adults appreciate it. It's one less thing to dust, find a place for, return because it's the wrong size, etc.
