200 Gentle Readers
Mar. 14th, 2004 09:26 amY'all must be out of your ever-lovin' minds. That's all I'm saying.
(And Friday the Thirteenth came on a Saturday this month.)
I would be very pleased and grateful if you'd drop me a line in the comments thread to this post. Tell me something about yourself or something about why you read this LJ. Please. I cannot possibly add you all to my reading list, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in who you are and what you're thinking.

Date: 2004-03-14 07:55 am (UTC)As for me, I work in an academic library, which leads to many comic situations I cannot relate openly, and I'm a very freshman writer, which leads to many situations less entertaining, which I kvetch about often.

Date: 2004-03-14 09:07 am (UTC)I'm a multi-fandom fan and keenly appreciate your interest list. You won't find my LJ interesting at the moment as it is almost all about pop fandom.

Date: 2004-03-14 09:47 am (UTC)I read you because you provide a lot of insight into stuff that interests me, and / or that people dear to me care about, but that I know little about myself. Such as writing, and literature, and fandom. And because you post the most interesting memes, and because you seem to attract really exciting discussion in your comments. And apart from that, I'd read your journal for the Dorothy L Sayers analyses alone.
About me? I'm a science PhD student trying to use some of my thesis displacement time to keep in touch with the rest of culture that doesn't revolve around p53. I really appreciate that your journal exists, it's so scholarly and so readable, and thanks for all the effort you put into it.

Date: 2004-03-14 10:00 am (UTC)I was one of the people who answered your question about martial arts, though I think that was before I acquired my own journal. Mine is mostly about books, karate, my dysfuctional family, and the process of taking a book from sale to publication. (I just sold my first book, a memoir about how my insane hippie parents raised me in a bizarre ashram in India where I was the only foreign child in the entire town.)

Date: 2004-03-14 10:11 am (UTC)As for me, I teach adults to use computers and I write fiction. Also I'm in the process of applying to do an MA in Creative Writing (part time via distance learning). You'd probably find my LJ mostly boring as a lot of it is just about mundane life. But I also write about writing. Sometimes.

Date: 2004-03-14 10:44 am (UTC)Because you have a cuddly Cthulhu
Because you have Venus Flytrap called Audrey
Because I still have fond memories of your Drusilla icon, and that's my mental picture of you.
Because you not only say clever things, you say them well and often with humour.
Because, well, you're just a joy to read.

Date: 2004-03-14 11:01 am (UTC)Periodically, I look at the friends lists of people whom I admire and who have short lists. Anyone whose last post was sufficiently interesting gets added to my own friends list. I'm especially partial to anyone who sounds smarter than I do: I'm always looking for fresh brains to suck... err... I mean intellectual stimulation, of course.
My own lj may be of limited interest as it currently contains a lot of purple prose about loving Japan and missing Swarthmore and an abominable fanfic of a Michael Crichton book. (I do embrace our friend the cut tag though.)
