A small oasis of LJ between Odyssey Con and Minicon.

I will be doing a reading at Minicon, and I am not, repeat not, in a flat spin about the fact that I'm currently scheduled between [livejournal.com profile] pameladean and (author GoH) Walter Jon Williams.

This is me, not spazzing.

I still haven't figured out what I'm going to read.

But I actually intended to post about one of my acquisitions from this past weekend: a shoggoth. (Cons are great for second childhood splurges. I also purchased a Nazgul, Catwoman, and Wolverine, the latter two of whom have joined Faith, Drusilla, and Darth Vader in guarding my printer from all comers. The Nazgul is on the stereo, waltzing with the Alien Queen.) The shoggoth is made by Toy Vault, the same people responsible for Plush Cthulhu. (They are not the only people responsible for Plush Cthulhus, but they are the manufacturers of the one I own.) Also the Bloody Rabbit with Big Pointy Teeth. Unfortunately, they haven't updated their website in quite some time, so do not have pictures of the shoggoth up. (Other sites do, and this is the best picture I've found. I did not buy my shoggoth from Entertainment Earth; this isn't an endorsement, just a good view of the shoggoth.)

So I have a shoggoth. And the shoggoth has a label, which says, and I quote: "To prevent production migration do not wash by hand or machine." Now, I know what they mean (or at least, I think I do), but of course the first thing I thought of was "Don't feed them after midnight." This led to a rather silly conversation between Mirrorthaw and myself about where shoggoths might migrate to, and whether they'd come back in the spring. And the admonition in my subject line: Don't wash your shoggoth.

And later silliness (I don't know quite how we got on the cowboy theme):

Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be shoggoths.

Rollin' rollin' rollin', keep them shoggoths rollin'.

Get along, little shoggoth.

It occurs to me now that Mamas, don't let your shoggoths grow up to be cowboys also has potential.

I haven't quite figured out what to do with the shoggoth (aside from not washing it), but I think I've already got my money's worth.

The con was otherwise laid-back and enjoyable. I got to talk about Tolkien a lot. And now I'm going to try to rest my brain so as to be ready for Minicon.

I've been working on tonight's music most of the afternoon, and came in here for a shortish break. and what do I find? Vatloads of earworms!

I dream of shoggoths with their light brown teeth ...

The shoggoths are coming, yoho, yoho

Shoggoth, when you're awfully low
and the world is cold
I will get a glow just thinking of you
and the way you look tonight.

what have you DONE to me??!

Oh dear. I am sorry. Color me amused but apologetic.
