May. 22nd, 2004 12:05 pm1. Wiscon next weekend. I'm on the YA fiction panel Friday night and doing a reading with
matociquala and
buymeaclue and
pnew8 on Saturday morning. How much I'm around otherwise depends on
2. I have not heard from my director about the Hamlet chapter, after the email on Thursday saying that, from her perusal of the first few pages, she didn't think I needed to worry about having an "inordinate" amount of additional work to do.
This word "inordinate" worries me. We've proven several times over the last seven months that my director's definition of "inordinate" and mine do not necessary fall on the same page of the dictionary. There are many reasons for this, one of them being that at this point I consider any further work on the Albatross to be an inordinate amount, but the fact remains that June 11th is my deadline, and I still have to propitiate the Guardian Sphinxes of Formatting after I get the all-clear from my director. The deadline is looming like a brick wall, and I'm not sure the go-cart I'm in has working brakes.
3. Also, until I've heard from my director and know whether I'm really done or not, I don't feel that I can start work seriously on any of the fiction projects clamoring for my attention. Because if I start one and then get told I have to go back to the Albatross, there are not going to be words in English to express the foulness of my mood. *BALROG* will be about the only thing left to say, and that's really hard on one's vocal cords.
4. Mirrorthaw and I will be moving this summer. We have actually bought a house--we're getting better and better at faking adulthood, honestly, it's kind of creepy--and both money and time are going to be more precious than diamonds.
5. The deadline for Kekropia is May 1, 2005. Fact.
Suddenly, I understand exactly and precisely why I'm feeling so stressed. Criminy.
So if you're going to be at Wiscon, come say hi. You might even consider it a public service.

And yeah. The good news is, you write fast, and well. *snug*
Guardian Sphinxes of Formatting
Date: 2004-05-22 12:07 pm (UTC)**strikes sphinx-like pose, and mutters under her breath strange invocations that sound like "all citations in the text must appear in the reference list, and all references must be cited to in the text" and "why is an inconsistency in how third subtitles are formatted between different chapters the most consistent error across two years' worth of dissertations in my editors' circle?" **

Date: 2004-05-23 09:05 am (UTC)Maybe you should round up a bunch of people and we can do a ritual to propitiate the spirits of Academe, and to ensure you get the degree you so richly deserve. It seems like with all that has gone on, maybe you need to sacrifice a lamb, or something. Okay, I just woke up and my brain isn't quite out of dream mode yet.
