I took a nap, and now that I'm awake again, I have the word Zinjanthropus rattling around in my skull.
I did not, so far as I can recall, dream about primates (extinct or otherwise), or about evolution, or paleoanthropology, or even Africa. (So far as I can recall, I dreamed about taking my seven-year-old self to the movies.) I haven't been on a paleoanthropological reading kick recently, or even really contemplating the exploits of our fossilized brethren Australopithecus and early Homo.
And yet, Zinjanthropus! says my brain, and I. Do. Not. Know. Why.
Progress on my list is, um, less than inspiring. The bread is rising, so no. 3 is essentially done except for the fact that our perception of time is linear, and there's still a good couple of hours between me as I type this and the bread coming out of the oven as loaves rather than dough. We won't talk about no. 4, and no. 2 has been derailed by no. 1, as I have finally managed to articulate to myself why I am dissatisfied with this draft ... and must now, of course, figure out how to fix it.
I need the recognition of the problem to count for more, dammit.
Zinjanthropus!
[ETA: and now Zinjanthropuppy (see comments) is in my head singing "No monkeyman can win my love." I apologize to Neneh Cherry. Zinjanthropuppy doesn't. I have such a weird brain some days.]
