DOMINIC: Hurry up!
GERARD: There are rules about this sort of thing, you know.
DOMINIC: Yes, and one of the rules is, if the leopard eats me, I die. Hurry!

I don't have context, and I don't know who Dominic and Gerard are. But clearly they're leading a very interesting life.

I suppose you would hit me with something large and heavy if I suggested that Dominic and Gerard were playing a roleplaying game?

Because, really, this could have come out of Dragonhunt. (Yes, even the names.)

Hee.

And, no, the leopard was an actual leopard. And they were trapped in a kitchen with it, iirc.

Does this have something to do with Hall's Narrative Law of Disbelief Conservation (the exposition of which begins, "Let's suppose you have to convince your family who have imposed themselves chez toi for the Christmas period that there is a leopard in the kitchen.")? Or do leopards in kitchens come from some deeper well?

I'd forgotten about that. Thank you!

And, no, I don't think the leopard had anything to do with Disbelief Conservation. It certainly wasn't Dominic and Gerard's kitchen that it was in.

Then whose kitchen was it?

Honestly, I think it was a derelict kitchen.

Which might explain why nobody'd done anything about the leopard.

And if you misread "kitchen" as "kitten," you get something *really* interesting.
