I think (she said cautiously) that I've found the answer to the character/world-building problem I was bitching about on Saturday.

[livejournal.com profile] shivasaavik asked in the comments if I found I had to write the nonviewpoint characters to get their motivations worked out, to which my answer was yes and no. I don't, mercifully, have to write the actual scenes, but I have found that writing out what I'm thinking is frequently the only way to get anything moving--my theory is that it gives me the illusion of a dialogue. (Actual dialogue with [livejournal.com profile] matociquala also helps greatly, but there comes a point in every problem-solving process where it's really just down to me and my backbrain, two falls out of three.) This time, it manifested in the form of a Q&A session--and devolved slighlty into a press conference, with the reporters heckling the poor spokesperson and asking three questions at once.

But like I said, I think it worked.

Maybe we should clone [livejournal.com profile] matociquala and sell her as a writing aid. There is money to be made there.

Yes. That is one thing I've become convinced of, after keeping this journal for so long. Which is why I will sometimes post rambling streams of consciousness.

Would we have to clone her animals, too, though? For maximum effectiveness?

I'm glad it worked out and hopefully your characters didn't drive you to crazy in the process. =)
