My Waterman Phileas just fell/got knocked on the floor. (Not quite sure what happened, although I know the cat didn't do it on purpose.)

In the fall, the cap came off. So--y'all can see it coming, can't you?--it landed on its nib. Which is now bent.

And since my Sheaffer is currently leaking like a sieve (that was the Unfortunate Incident from a few nights ago), this means I am PENLESS!

O dire extremity, o state of living death!

Or, as [livejournal.com profile] mrissa says, Wailie, wailie.

And, yes, I am about to head over to Fountain Pen Hospital. Why do you ask?

I dropped my good pen so much that it doesn't work when it's straight. I should try to have it fixed by someone who knows what she's doing, but I am unwilling to spend money on it. So far.

I semi-fixed a Phileas once by straightening the nib back out with needlenose pliers, but it was never really the same after. I dropped it in the grocery store. Wailie indeed.

[livejournal.com profile] markgritter reacted very well: one doesn't expect to go in to use the bathroom and find one's spouse crouched naked in the tub with pliers and a pen, generally, but apparently people who are married to me just have to take it in stride.

sounds like business as usual around here, too....

Sometimes you can fix them, sometimes not.

*sigh*

You might see if the FPH will sell you a "replacement nib" to keep on hand in case of another emergency. I would expect it to cost about half as much as getting a second clearance-priced pen to keep on hand (www.swisherpens.com almost always has clearance Phileas FPs for under $25).

True--and even a good idea--but you know that does kind of take all the fun out of it. :)

There is a fountain pen hospital?

Dude.

There's a story in that.
