The Virtu, Chapter 14: 404 words

Being a writer is beating your head against the wall until the wall falls down.

404 is a good day's work, especially on a hard part.

How many chapters are there?

Um, it looks like it's going to be 16. But 15 and 16 will only need roll-over editing from 14. It's 14 that's the bitchkitty.

That's no so bad, then.

I bet it will come together all of a sudden, after much painful slogging.

The wall *will* fall down.

(My husband: "Are you telling her she's hard-headed?")

Well, you wouldn't be telling me anything I didn't know. *g*

And then trying to make sense of the pieces.

(PS I am reading Melusine. Good book!)

Yes, what she said--I do say more here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/hominysnark/52952.html?nc=16), although it's mostly gush and squee.

Um. You do know that gush and squee are not offensive to writers, right?

Thank you v. much!

Yah, but I do try to wedge a wee bit of content in with the gush and squee.

You're v. welcome, and I expect The Virtu will produce more G&S. :D

That's when the light flows in.

It sounds corny, but that's what happens to me. I always compare these bad, flowing like treacle in January stretches to standing in a hallway with no doors, windows, or any sort of outlet, trying to find my way out. All of a sudden, the walls blow out and I'm surrounded by airy, sunny landscape. It's that sudden.

Feels great. Unfortunately, the getting-there part's a stone bitch.

Oof. Yes.

You describe that very well (she says commiseratingly).

I experience it several times over the course of a book.

It's right up there with licking frozen doorknobs.

Oh, no wonder -- I've been doing it wrong. I thought it was beating the wall against my head until it falls down.

Hmmm. Sometimes it feels like my skull will crack long before any walls come down...

You mean the wall is supposed to be so hard to break? Damn. :p
