Scott Joplin is a right bastard to play.

But, dude, he is so worth it.

I once had to memorize "Solace" for a recital.

Yeah.

I think my fingers may still know part of "Solace", as well as "Bethena".

Absolutely. Sometimes it makes my fingers feel like they're just not part of me. That's good at times and sometimes not so much.

It was a happy day for me when my fingers were able to stretch a whole octave so that I wouldn't have to learn Chopin and Mozart any more. I think it was the only music I played where my brain was able to relax enough to squee "Ooh, I'm in a room where Scott Joplin music is playing!"

My left hand used to go into fearsome cramps and I STILL missed too many of the chords.

What I need is Scott Joplin's Ragtime For Right Hand.

One of my three favorite moments of playing was when I finally (and it turned out only time) nailed the "Maple Leaf Rag" at speed.

Very much worth it.

I always wanted to be musical. Seems I'm just a music want to be.

Hmm, could you get a job playing?

I've thought of that, but since I choke if I have an audience--not so much.

Any piece(s) in particular?

At the moment, I am teaching myself the Maple Leaf Rag, bit by bit. But I've got the whole collection--I figure this should keep me happily busy for the foreseeable future, and possibly longer.
