As [livejournal.com profile] matociquala points out (::blows kisses at Bear::), I'm eligble for the Campbell Award this year (in either my first or second year of eligibility, depending on what rules we use).

So if you're eligible to nominate (and there are Rules about that, too, having to do with membership in a Worldcon, and I'm not quite sure how they go either) and you think I'm deserving ...

...

...

...!

I can't actually say it. All my social conditioning from growing up female in the mid-South has just risen up, righteous in its wrath, and hissed, "You vulgar, conceited hussy! You stop that right this instant!" And paralyzed with mortification and the guilty certainty of being wrong, all I can do is say humbly, "Yes, ma'am," and shut the hell up.

But you know what I mean, right?

Now all I have to do is find stuff to nominate for the Hugos. What's you're stance on embarrassing icons? ::grins::

Sure, if you want to.

The nomination rules require that someone either
(a) have been a member of last year's Worldcon, Interaction or
(b) be a member of this year's Worldcon, LAcon IV by January 31
to nominate people/works for the JWC New Writer Award or the Hugos.

Those memberships can be either Attending or Supporting.

And to have one's vote counted, once the final ballot is out, one must be a member of LAcon IV.

Which is reason enough to vote for you, IMHO, aside from total raves from another lj buddy of mine.
Unfortunately, *I* don't meet the voting requirements--probably ought to, can't afford it.

* eyes pop * It's hearing or reading things like that that drive home how different most people's lives are from mine, even in the U.S.

Not to make this about me, or anything.

Well, hey, the fact that you posted about this at all is definitely another step in the direction of giving the finger to said social conditioning.

As is the book itself, so hey. *g*

I'm amazed you could get as far as this.

My feeling is that if one campaigns for an award, it becomes worthless, because if one were to win afterwards one would feel it was undeserved because one had won because one had campaigned.

I'm also not very good at showing off. Fortunately, publishers have publicity people to do this stuff.
